Track & OTA Admissions

Track I Admissions Criteria
Students may apply to either Track I program and be eligible for an interview to enter the professional occupational therapy program upon meeting the following criteria:
  • A minimum of 48 hours of volunteer experience and/or community service (16 hours children/adolescent, 16 hours adult, and 16 hours older adults)
  • Letters of reference addressing moral and ethical behavior, academic abilities, and work ethic
  • Completion of the following prerequisite course work: COM 109, ENG 103, MAT 103 or higher, BIO 207, 208, CHE 109, NUR 206, PSY 201, 207
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a grade of C in all prerequisite course work. If accepted in the professional program, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all OT core courses. In addition, upon admission to graduate school, students must achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 as identified by the Graduate Bulletin.
  • International students need to provide a copy of the score sheet from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • College Entrance Exams: ACT, SAT or equivalent
    • Students who have not completed a college entrance exam, please disregard this portion of the admissions requirement.

Track II: Admission Criteria
Related Bachelor's Degree Admissions Criteria
Students may apply to Track II and be eligible for an interview to enter the occupational therapy education program as seniors upon meeting the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 48 hours of volunteer experience and/or community service (16 hours children/adolescent, 16 hours adult, and 16 hours elderly population)
  • Letters of reference addressing moral and ethical behavior, academic abilities, and work ethic
  • Reflective paper from an interview with an occupational therapist
  • Completion of the following prerequisite course work: ENG 103, COM 109, MAT 103 or 104 or higher, PSY 201, 207, 406, NUR 206, BIO 207, 208
  • Completion of 60 credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a grade of C in all prerequisite course work. If accepted in the professional program, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all OT core courses. In addition, upon admission to graduate school, students must achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 as identified by the Graduate Bulletin
  • International students need to provide a copy of the score sheet from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
  • College Entrance Exams: ACT, SAT, or equivalent:
    • Students who have not completed a college entrance exam, please disregard this portion of the admissions requirements.

OTA Admissions Criteria
OTAs may qualify to enter the professional program through either Track I or Track II. OTA students must complete 128 credit hours of undergraduate course work as required for a bachelor's degree prior to beginning graduate courses. OTA students may apply and enter the occupational therapy education program upon meeting the following criteria:

    • Minimum of 48 hours of volunteer experience and/or community service (16 hours children/adolescents, 16 hours adults, 16 hours elderly population)

OR

    • Minimum of 10 hours of community service in a service-related capacity
      • Level II Fieldwork or employment in an occupational therapy setting may be substituted for volunteer hours                           
    • Letters of reference addressing moral and ethical behavior, academic abilities, and work ethic
    • Completion of written goal statement
    • Completion of 63 credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a grade of C in all prerequisite course work. if accepted in the professional program, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all OT core courses. In addition, upon admission to graduate school, students must achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA 3.0 as identified by the Graduate Bulletin.
    • International students need to provide a copy of the score sheet from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
    • College Entrance Exams: ACT, SAT, or equivalent
      • Students who have not completed a college entrance exam, please disregard this portion of the admissions requirement.
    • OTA students may be eligible to request waiver* of occupational therapy prerequisite courses if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
      • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 in OTA program
      • Dual credit, advanced placement or CLEP indicating proficiency in advanced math
      • OT Admission composite science score of 3.5

* This waiver does not include courses meeting liberal arts requirements.

Track III Admission Criteria
Occupational Therapy Practitioners may apply to Track III and enter the University of Mary Occupational Therapy Program upon meeting the following criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy
  • Evidence of meeting regulatory standards from all states in which current practice occurs (if applicable)
  • Verification of current NBCOT certification/recertification
  • Three letters of reference
  • Completion of a written goal statement
  • If accepted in the professional program, students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 in all OT core courses. In addition, upon admission to graduate school, students must achieve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 as identified by the Graduate Bulletin.
