The University of Mary has a one-of-a-kind program for those accounting majors motivated to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Most states, including North Dakota, require 150 credit hours of higher education before sitting for the CPA exam. Here is how it works:
- With guidance from your accounting advisor, you can graduate with a Bachelor of Science with a major in accounting in 3 1/2 years. After that, you will enter the graduate Master of Business Adminstration program. This is an accelerated degree program that allows you to work full time while completing your master's in only 18 months.
- Here is what makes us unique-while studying for your master's degree, you will take online CPA review courses for graduate credit. These courses are built into the curriculum and replace certain courses in the program.
- After five years, you could have successfully completed a bachelor's and a master's degree, and have passed the CPA exam!
The curriculum for the undergraduate CPA track is laid out below. In addition to the courses listed, every student at the University of Mary completes 56 hours of liberal arts education. This involves an additional nine courses to be taken during the semesters listed or during May or Summer terms. The accounting department also recommends that the students take BUS 204 Macroeconomics, BUS 362 Financial Management, and ACC 363 Fund Accounting in preparation for the CPA exam.
