CIS 101 Introduction to Computer Information Systems
This course teaches the fundamentals of computers and computer nomenclature, focusing on the use of PC hardware, software and the World Wide Web. No experience with computer applications is assumed; however, students should possess basic keyboarding and mouse skills. Specifically, the Windows operating system as well as the Microsoft Office Suite of applications will be studied. Prerequisite: None

CIS 106 Application Software Concepts
This course presents hands-on computer lab experience in the fundamental, introductory concepts of operating systems; database management systems; and object-oriented programming technology. Topics include graphical user interface and text-based operating systems concepts; database design, creation, maintenance, queries, reports, and forms design; and fourth-generation program development of business applications, involving projects, forms, controls, properties, event procedures, and dialog boxes. Prerequisite: CIS 101 or instructor consent.

CIS 107 Introduction to Programming
This is a beginning course in computer programming. No previous programming experience is required. This course will utilize the COBOL programming language and introduce the student to modern structured programming concepts and problem-solving techniques. Programming activities include solving common business problems of limited complexity. Prerequisite: CIS 106 or instructor's consent.

MIS 120 Programming Tools for Managers
This course provides a strong, fundamental understanding of Visual Basic for Applications, a programming language used in Microsoft Office applications as well as in several non-Microsoft software products. Rather than learning a different language for each software application, VBA allows even beginner-level programmers to customize and automate a large number of application software packages used in many corporate and educational settings. The hands-on focus of this course allows students to become adept at manipulating a great number of objects in a comfortable work or home environment. Prerequisite: None

MIS 200 Introduction to Management Information Systems
This course presents fundamental knowledge essential to managing an information technology infrastructure successfully within an organization. It considers strategic and operational issues, the significance of rapidly advancing technology, and human and organizational issues related to technology introduction and use. The course describes management systems and models of successful behavior that capitalize on opportunities and avoid the numerous potential pitfalls. Prerequisite: None

CIS 203 Application Design and Implementation
This is a beginning course in the use of information systems techniques to solve managerial and organizational problems of limited complexity. Formal analytical problem-solving and algorithm development, using the standard control structures of expression evaluation, sequencing, selection, iteration, and procedural abstraction are introduced. Students develop programming solutions using information systems development techniques with graphic-based, object-oriented, event-driven programming tools. Prerequisite: CIS 107 or instructor consent.

CIS 204 Applications Development
This is an intermediate course in the use of information systems techniques to solve managerial and organizational problems of limited complexity. Advanced topics in developing applications with graphic-based, object-oriented, event-driven programming tools are emphasized. The Microsoft Windows application programming interface and component object model are explored. Prerequisite: CIS 203 or instructor's consent.

CIS 305 Systems Development I - Database Techniques
An in-depth investigation of data modeling, systems development, and data administration in a database environment. Prerequisite: CIS 204 or instructor consent.

CIS 306 Systems Development II – Methods & Issues
A detailed study of the systems development life cycle using strategies and techniques of structured systems analysis and design. Prerequisite: MIS 200; or CIS 204; or instructor consent.

CIS 351 Software and Hardware Concepts
A survey of technical topics related to computer systems with emphasis on networking and the relationships between hardware architecture, systems software, and applications software.

MIS 352 Decision Support Systems
This comprehensive course teaches students how to plan, design, and implement worksheets using Microsoft Excel. The students are provided practical examples of professional (business) and personal worksheets. The textbook has been approved by Microsoft as course ware for the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) program, and it will help prepare students to pass the Expert level of the MOUS exam for Microsoft Excel. Prerequisite: CIS 106, MIS 120, MIS 200 or instructor's consent.

CIS 353 Advanced Office Systems
This course provides students with an understanding of client/server operating systems in local area network environments. The course involves students in planning, installing, administering, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows 2000 professional, server, and Linux operating systems. Prerequisite: CIS 351 or instructor consent.

MIS 354 Computer Graphics
In this course, students learn how to create Web pages. The class consists of two parts; the first part involves creating Web pages directly in HTML code, while the second part involves creating Web pages with high-end HTML editor. Related Web-page technologies such as image-editing software, Web resource identification, digital cameras, and scanners are also presented. Prerequisites: Any two CIS courses or instructor's consent.

CIS 356 Advanced Web Programming
This course provides advanced work with application design and development. Emphasis is on scripting languages, Web database programming, and Web server management tools. The course also focuses on the component model of software development and an exploration of client-server software development. Prerequisites: CIS 204, 354 or instructor consent.

CIS 357 Programming Languages
This current development technologies course guides the student through advanced program development, implementation, and application using emerging program development tools. Prerequisite: CIS 204 or instructor's consent.

CIS 358 Advanced Graphics in Business
This course fulfills the need for an advanced Web design course covering state-of-the-art graphics and animation for Web pages. This course also covers integration of full-featured interactivity of Web pages. Prerequisites: CIS 354, 356 or instructor's consent.

CIS/MIS 401 Applied Software Development Project
A capstone systems course integrating the knowledge and abilities gained through other computer-related courses in the curriculum within a comprehensive system development project. Prerequisites: CIS 305, 306 or instructor's consent.

CIS 453 Distributed Intelligence and Communication
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, and administer Microsoft Windows Active Directory services. The course also focuses on implementing Group Policy and performing the Group Policy-related tasks required to centrally manage users and computers. This course will also cover how to properly implement a Windows Active Directory infrastructure. This course covers exam objectives for the MSCE Microsoft certification track. Prerequisite: CIS 353 or instructor's consent.

MIS 454 Information Resource Planning and Management
Students study project management concepts and the role that a project plays within an organization. Students also study project management tools and techniques necessary to orchestrate projects from start to finish. The course of study provides hands-on case lessons augmented with Microsoft Project software. Prerequisite: Any four CIS or MIS courses or instructor's consent.

CIS/MIS 456 Internship I
This course is designed to provide a meaningful work experience for the student that is related to computer information systems.The course integrates curricular learning with practical hands-on work experience while allowing the student to demonstrate proficiency in the core university competencies. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the division or consent of the coordinator of internships. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the division or consent of the coordinator of internships.

CIS 457 Advanced Programming Languages
A fundamental treatment of computer science topics featuring the study of the high-level programming language Java. Topics discussed will include computer architecture, programming languages, and ethical issues involved in computer use. Problem solving techniques involved in writing programs will be studied, proper style and documentation will be required, and object oriented program design will be introduced. The required chapter lab work will involve an intensive study of programming techniques in Java. Prerequisite: CIS 357 or instructor's consent.

CIS 458 Systems Development Project
Students will discuss a variety of issues that take place during operating systems upgrades and learn how to resolve these issues. Students will design, build, and upgrade computer operating systems and networks. This course covers exam objectives for the MCSE Microsoft certification track. Prerequisite: CIS 453 or instructor's consent
