Providing the Art of Human Expression
        in the Professional World . . .

The Humanities Division Staff

Mission

We provide students with the theoretical and experiential knowledge of communications and aesthetics essential for the complete development of any leader. We are dedicated to serving the cultural needs of the people through artistic performances, scholarly presentations, and unique cultural events, including an international dinner, the University of Mary Jazz Festival, theater performances, educational outreach, public service, and international travel opportunities.

Philosophy

We are committed to students' success within their professions. We strive to develop each student's ability to adapt personally and professionally. We foster students' knowledge of change within scholarship, career fields, and the world so they are able to adapt and thrive within those changing environments long after they graduate.

Outcomes

We strive to:

  • Provide every student who enters the university skills in public speaking, information literacy, and writing, and aesthetic understanding of an art form.
  • Provide students who so choose with French or Spanish fluency.
  • Provide learning environments within each major that demand students think effectively, communicate thoroughly, behave creatively, act ethically, and appreciate more fully aesthetic norms and artistic works.
  • Foster the free exchange of ideas between students and faculty.
  • Enable students to develop the leadership skills required to succeed in their chosen disciplines and to be contributing members to the larger civic and cultural communities in which they live.
