The University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program offers students:

An opportunity to develop optimal skills in prevention; recognition, evaluation and immediate care; rehabilitation and reconditioning; health care adminstration; professional development and responsibility.

The opportunity to to be placed in supervised environments that encourage common sense, rational thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of clinical settings and with a variety of athletes. Clinical experiences include male and female, team and individual, and high- and low-risk sports.

Exposure to medical and other professionals who are part of the athletic health care team, both in the classroom and in the clinical setting.
Mission
The mission of the Athletic Training Education Program at the University of Mary is to prepare students to become professionals who assist athletes of all ages and abilities to participate in recreational and competitive activities. The program strives to develop leaders in the athletic training profession or allied health professions who possess excellent communication and critical-thinking skills. We encourage understanding and respect for social, physical, and cultural diversity.
Outcomes
Upon completion of academic requirements for graduation, the athletic training student will have the professional preparation to practice athletic training skills within a variety of venues and with a wide range of athletic populations. In addition, the student will be able to:

Practice the profession of athletic training by utilizing the skills obtained through effective learning of the cognitive, objective, and psychomotor domains.

Identify injury/illness risks factors associated with participation in competitive athletics and plans and implement all components of a comprehensive athletic injury/illness prevention program.

Conduct a thorough initial clinical evaluation of injuries and illnesses commonly sustained by the competitive athlete.

Plan and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation/reconditioning program for injuries/illnesses sustained by the competitive athlete.

Plan, coordinate, and supervise all administrative components of an athletic training program.

Provide health care information and counsel athletes, parents, and coaches on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological, and emotional health and well-being of the athlete.

Realize his/her own personal strengths or challenges in the athletic training profession and continue to achieve continuing education, thereby promoting the advancement of the field and his/her personal advancements.

After successfully completing the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program, 100 percent of the students who take the Board of Certification (BOC) examination will pass the examination and attain BOC certification.
Accreditation
The Athletic Training Education Program at the University of Mary is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Athletic Training Education Program (CAATE) through the Joint Review Commission on Education Programs in Athletic Training (JRC-AT). By graduating from an accredited curriculum program, students become eligible candidates to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. The athletic training major at the University of Mary is a four-year Bachelor of Science degree.
