Track II Student
Track II is designed for the student who shows promise of success in the athletic training field but has an area of concern or has not completely met a criterion for full acceptance into the Athletic Training Education Program.
Upon review of the student’s application to the professional upper-level Athletic Training Education Program and the student’s performance in the selection process, the Athletic Training Admissions Committee has determined that the deficient criterion or area of concern will take one full academic year to remediate. Thus, the recommendation of the Admissions Committee would be that the student be accepted into the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program as a Track II – provisional status student. This track requires three (3) full academic years to complete the professional upper-level Athletic Training Education Program.
The student must continue to maintain his/her successful completion of: (a) academic course work - student must maintain a grade of B or better in all courses listed within the curriculum, (b) clinical experience, and (c) maintain First Aid and Emergency Cardiac Care Certification. The student who does not progress successfully is placed on probation or dropped from the program, depending on the seriousness of the deficiency.
Some reasons for being accepted on a provisional status include, but are not limited to:
- Failure to meet training room observation hours
- GPA less than a 2.50 on a 4.0 scale
- Failure to meet established retention standards
- Unsuccessful completion of competency skills
- Unsuccessful academic standards
- Failure to maintain First Aid and Emergency Cardiac Care Certification.
- Failure to show responsibility in meeting commitments
- Unacceptable behavior as a representative of the University of Mary

ATH 317 – Sports Nutrition for Health and Performance

*Completion of a minimum of 140 assigned hours of supervised clinical experience
*Successful completion of competency testing required during the supervised clinical experience
*Monthly meeting with academic advisor to include but not limited to monthly grade checks in professional upper-level and remediated course work.

Track III is designed for the student who has completed course work in an accredited athletic training education program and has completed two years of undergraduate course work consisting of at least 60 semester hours. This track is designed to complete the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program in no less than two years or no more than three years barring unforeseen circumstances.
Students wishing to transfer to the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program must first meet with the athletic training program director. All prerequisites are strictly enforced. Upon admission to the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program, the student may petition that prior work and/or clinical experiences be considered as equivalents of courses and/or clinical experiences within the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program curriculum. Upon review of the student's petition, the Athletic Training Program Admissions Committee will make the final decision on course and/or clinical experience equivalency. The student must complete all other professional upper level academic courses not accepted as transfer credit. The student must also maintain academic, clinical, and medical criteria to maintain their position in the professional upper level of the Athletic Training Education Program.

Petition Procedures:
Transfer students must submit in writing their requests for accepting previous course work and clinical experiences. Included with this document are the following:

Name of course, credit hours, professor, institution, and name of the University of Mary course for which it will be substituting. |

b. |
A detailed copy of a course syllabus for all courses that must include course objectives and learner outcomes. |
|
|
c. |
A notarized copy of the BOC Verification of Supervision form for all previous clinical experiences. |
|
d. |
Official Transcript (sent by the college/university). |

Course Acceptance Procedures:

The committee will review each of the course descriptions and syllabi.

The committee will then compare the said course to the University of Mary course and determine level of equivalency. The following criteria will be evaluated:

If course criteria are met, the committee will determine if the student demonstrates content competence in one of three ways:

Grade - Successfully complete the courses with a required grade of B or C or greater, Pass for (laboratory). |

b. |
Portfolio - Provide evidence of achievement of learner outcomes (examples of work and graded exams) |
|
c. |
Student achievement assessment that may include competency evaluation (application). |

If the course content does not replicate that of the University of Mary course, the student will follow the normal athletic training curricular plan.

If the course content replicates criteria of the University of Mary course, the student will be placed within the curricular plan where appropriate.

Clinical Experience Acceptance Procedures:

The committee will review each of the BOC Verification of Supervision forms.

The committee will then compare the said clinical experience to the University of Mary clinical experience and determine if they are comparable. The following criteria will be evaluated:
a. Assignment
b. Responsibilies
c. Clinical setting
d. Type of supervision
e. Method of student assessment

If the course does not have comparable assignments, responsibilities, clinical settings or supervision, the clinical experience will not be substituted for the University of Mary clinical experience and the student will follow the normal athletic training field experience rotation.

If the clinical experience has comparable criterion to the University of Mary clinical experience, the student will then be placed within the curricular plan where appropriate.

If the student does not meet criteria for No. 3: Course Acceptance Procedures, then the student will need to repeat the course through the University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program.
Once accepted into the upper-level Athletic Training Education Program, the student must continue to maintain his/her successful completion of: (a) academic course work, (b) clinical experience, and (c) maintain current First Aid and Emergency Cardiac Care Certification.
A student who has not met the criteria or who in other ways demonstrates an inaptitude for a career in athletic training is not accepted.
The University of Mary Athletic Training Education Program Admissions Committee reserves the right to accept or reject prior course work or clinical experience in accordance to the above procedures.
A student who has not met the criteria or who in other ways demonstrates an inaptitude for a career in athletic training is not accepted. Pre-Admission Courses: ATH 151, 238, 243, 244, 314: BIO 103, 207, 208: NUR 206: PED 157, 159, 360.
Required Professional Courses: ATH 316, 317, 319, 327, 328, 329, 353, 354, 441, 453, 454: EXS 336: PSY 201, 207; PHI 308 / 482: MAT 180 or 204 or HPS 307.
