History The UMATSA was established in the spring of 1990 to develop and encourage the cooperation and education of the athletic training student staff. It seeks to promote the profession of athletic training in accordance with the National Athletic Trainers Association. The name of the organization was changed in 2004 to the University of Mary Athletic Training Student Association (UMATSA) to reflect accreditation terminology.
The UMATSA strives to help students attend state, district, and national conventions and conferences; gain experience in areas that they would not traditionally see in the university setting; and bring in outside speakers to increase the knowledge of the association.
The executive board consists of three students in the sophomore, junior and senior classes. The offices are president, vice-president, and secretary/treasurer. Also, members are encouraged to serve on committees and to facilitate ideas for fundraising, public relations, and continuing education.
Membership is available to any student enrolled in the athletic training major. Annual dues are required to keep membership current. Freshman students are exempt from paying annual dues to be members of the association. All upper-class students must pay dues according to the policies set forth by the association.
Contact the Athletic Training Program director to inquire about the executive board members, who would be willing to provide more specific information regarding membership of the UMATSA.
