Dave Cook, a former University of Mary men’s soccer All-American and an assistant coach for the successful U-Mary women’s program, will now return to his roots and head up the Marauders men’s soccer program.
"We are very pleased to have one of our alumni who we consider a rising star in the coaching profession to be our new men’s soccer coach," said Bortke.
"I am excited to have an opportunity to coach the program I was a part of as a player," Cook said. "I am likewise pleased the University has decided to name Marauders head women’s soccer coach Levi Evans the Coordinator of the U-Mary Soccer Programs. I have enjoyed working with him the past four years with the women’s program. I look forward to the continued opportunity to work with him building a new future for the men’s soccer program."
Cook was an assistant coach with the U-Mary women’s soccer program the past four years. During that time, the Marauders advanced to the 2007 NCAA regional tournament in their first year of eligibility and won the Northern Sun conference tournament twice in two opportunities. The U-Mary women’s team finished last season 16-7-0 and ranked fourth in the region. While the assistant coach, the U-Mary women recorded a record of 48-31-7 and twice advanced to national tournament play.
The Bismarck Century High School co-head girls soccer coach from 2005-08, Cook guided the Patriots to a state championship in 2007 and four WDA titles. In his four years as head coach, CHS compiled a record of 58-8-5.
The Director of Coaching for the North Dakota Youth Soccer Association, Cook has a United States Soccer Federation "B" Licence, United States Soccer Federation "Y" Licence, as well as an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree at U-Mary.
A 2005 University of Mary graduate, the Bismarck, ND, native earned NAIA honorable mention All-America honors for the Marauders as a senior.
