Berogan Named Head Coach
The University of Mary has named Ben Berogan the head coach of the Marauders wrestling program. A Bismarck native, Berogan was an assistant coach at U-Mary the last four years.

"We are excited about seeing Ben Berogan continue in our program and assume the head coaching position," said U-Mary athletic director Al Bortke.

A native of Bismarck, ND, Berogan was a two-time state champion for Bismarck High School. At the University of North Dakota, Berogan earned All-America honors on the wrestling mat and Academic All-America honors in the classroom. After college, Berogan coached high school wrestling in Virginia for three years, where he worked with eight individual state champions and two state championship teams.

Berogan, who became the U-Mary interim head wrestling coach in January through the end of the regular season, started this year as the graduate assistant coach. He was the assistant coach his first three years in the program.

“I’m extremely excited,” said Berogan. “As a fan of wrestling and a wrestler, coaching a college team is something I have always wanted to do. With the competitiveness of the athletes at the college level, you get the guys who really want to be here and compete. Most wrestlers are highly self-motivated and it will be fun to push them to achieve their goals.

“I’ll bring a strong work ethic to my role as head coach. I’ve coached high school for three years, coached in summer camps, coached four years in college, and have worked with some great coaches. Having successfully wrestled in NCAA Division II, I know what it takes to succeed at this level.

“After working with the kids in the Marauders wrestling program the past few years, I know we already have a great group here and there is mutual respect. This is going to be a fun group to work with next year.”

Since the University of Mary started its wrestling program in 1988, the Marauders have produced 14 national champions and 87 all-Americans.
