Credit for Learning Outside the Classroom
At the University of Mary, we recognize adult students have the experience, the discipline, and the capability of learning through a nontraditional approach. Adult students often have significant knowledge and experience that may be translated into college credit.
Credit may be earned for learning that is done outside of the traditional college classroom. This learning may include work experience, volunteer services, workshops, seminars, and company-sponsored in-service programs. To help determine what learning experiences may apply, the student, with the assistance of the academic advisor, participates in a prior learning portfolio development process. Learning experiences are documented and evaluated for credit by campus faculty. To begin this process, the student submits a detailed resume for evaluation. If prior learning opportunities are identified, a prior learning portfolio is developed.
To participate in developing the prior learning portfolio, you must complete the application process:
Complete the application for admission
Remit the $125 application fee
Provide a copy of all college transcripts
Submit resume
