The Need for Security and Safety Awareness at U-Mary Annual crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation consistently show Bismarck to be among the safest cities in the United States, with a low incidence of violent crime. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors are all able enjoy a safe campus located in a safe community. Nevertheless, it is important for all members of the University of Mary community to make themselves aware of the risks that do exist and take appropriate precautions with regard to personal safety.
Security at the University The director of physical plant operations is responsible for campus security at the university. The university has an agreement with Bismarck-Mandan Security, a private firm, to provide uniformed security officers on the campus seven nights a week. The security officers provide escort services for students, staff, and faculty. In addition, each residence hall has live-in residence life staff who monitor security and safety in student residences.
Emergency Assistance - Dial 911 (9-911 from a university office phone) to connect to the combined, city-county emergency service center for emergency medical, fire, or law enforcement services.
Security during business hours - Contact the U-Mary director of physical plant operations at (701) 355-8123 with questions, concerns or to report the occurrence of a crime to the university.
Security at night and escort service - Contact the Bismarck- Mandan security officer on duty at the university by calling 471- 6070. Security officers are on duty beginning at 6:30 p.m., seven days a week. Security in the residence halls - Contact a member of the residence life staff (residence director or resident assistant) in your hall with security or safety concerns. Reporting Crime and Suspicious Activity The university places a high priority on maintaining a safe campus environment. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to report any crime or suspicious activity when it occurs. Crimes should be reported to both the Burleigh County Sheriff's Department (701-222-6651) and to the university.
