Governor Appoints Respiratory Therapy Professor to Tobacco Prevention and Control Advisory Committee

     Dr. Beth Hughes, associate professor and respiratory therapist from Bismarck, was appointed to serve a three-year term on the Tobacco Prevention and Control Advisory Committee, representing the ND Society for Respiratory Care.

Eight Marauders Named to USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team

     Eight University of Mary women's track and field athletes were recognized for their academic excellence, earning spots on the 2010 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II All-Academic Track and Field team.

     University of Mary head men's and women's track and field coach Mike Thorson today announced the commitment of 33 student-athletes to compete for the Marauders and pursue their academic degree at U-Mary.

     The University of Mary received the 2010 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Sportsmanship Award in recognition of the positive conduct exhibited throughout last season by everyone associated with Marauders athletics, from student-athletes to fans in the stands.

Barretto, Brown and Jensen Commit to Marauders Softball

     The University of Mary softball program added three more student-athletes for the 2010 season, Marauders head coach Gerice Olson announced today. The list includes a junior college all-conference shortstop and two all-league high school players who also captained their squads.

     Off to a strong professional baseball debut that includes a game-winning home run, Marauders alumni Andy Leer earned national notice as the feature subject of the current Appalachian League's "Appy Notes" that was posted on MiLB.com, "The Official Site of Minor League Baseball."

Ali Collins Set to Join Marauders

     One of North Dakota's most highly decorated prep basketball players is returning home. Ali Collins, the 2009 North Dakota Miss Basketball and a three-time state champion, will transfer to the University of Mary for the 2010-11 season, announced Marauders head women's basketball coach Fred Fridley. A native of Mandan, ND, Collins will be a sophomore with three years of athletic eligibility remaining.

     Mike Thorson, who led the Marauder women's track team to the NSIC outdoor championship, has been named the 2010 college female team coach of the year by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
